AIHostCompare is a comparison site you can use without an account. This policy explains which personal data is involved, why, on what legal basis, for how long, who else handles it, and what you can ask of us.
On this page
The short version
- There are no accounts, sign-up forms or comments. The only commercial content is affiliate links to DigitalOcean (through the Awin network) and the DigitalOcean logo, linked the same way, disclosed under each page's heading. There is no ad network, no third-party ad code and no advertising cookie set by this site.
- We use no tracking or advertising cookies and no fingerprinting. The site's own code sets no cookies at all; a few strictly functional settings are kept in your browser's storage (see “Cookies and your browser's storage”).
- Page views and a few product events are counted with PostHog, without cookies and without a visitor profile.
- Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes technical request data to deliver pages and keep the site secure. This involves a transfer to the United States, under the safeguards described below.
- If you email us or use the contact form, we use your message to reply, to act on it and to keep a record of the conversation. A contact-form message is passed straight on to our mailbox; this website keeps no copy and no contact-form database. Our mailbox is hosted by Zoho in its EU data center region.
Who is responsible
The controller for the processing described here is the Dutch sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) trading as Loadiqo and, for this website, as AIHostCompare, registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK) under number 97416770. The owner's name, the business address and the VAT number are in the legal notice.
Contact us about privacy at contact@aihostcompare.com, or use the contact form with the topic “Privacy / GDPR request”. We have not appointed a data protection officer; write to us this way for anything about your personal data.
What we process, why, and on what legal basis
Delivering pages and keeping the site secure
- IP address; the address requested, including its query parameters (such as filter or tool settings you share in a link); time; browser user agent; referring page; the country our hosting provider derives from the IP address
- Deliver pages, protect the site against abuse and attacks, find and fix errors
- Article 6(1)(f): our legitimate interest in a working and secure website
- For a limited period set by Vercel: how long its request logs are kept depends on the hosting plan (we use Pro) and on whether its optional Observability Plus feature is enabled for the project, as described in Vercel's runtime logs documentation (opens in a new tab). We do not export, copy or keep these logs ourselves. Vercel may keep security data longer under its own terms.
Default currency (EUR or USD)
- The country code our hosting provider derives from your IP address; your browser's language setting
- Show prices in euros or US dollars by default, once per browser tab, unless you chose a currency
- Article 6(1)(f): our legitimate interest in showing prices in a familiar currency
- Used for that one answer only. Our code does not store or log the country, and it never changes prices, providers or rankings.
Contact messages, emails, questions and correction reports
- Your email address; the topic you choose; your message; the time you sent it; your name, if you give it; the page or source URL, if you add one; and any other information you choose to include, such as attachments and sources you send by email
- Reply to you, handle your request, investigate and correct the data concerned, keep the necessary record of the correspondence, and protect the contact form against automated abuse
- Article 6(1)(f): our legitimate interest in answering messages, keeping the data accurate and keeping the contact form free of automated abuse. Requests about your privacy rights: Article 6(1)(c), our legal obligation to handle them.
- Deleted no later than 12 months after the correspondence is no longer needed for the purpose you wrote for, unless a statutory retention duty, a legal claim, a pending dispute or another demonstrable legal necessity requires us to keep it longer. The public corrections log contains no personal data.
- A message sent with the contact form goes from your browser to this website's server function at Vercel, which passes it on to our Zoho Mail mailbox as an email (your address is set as the reply address). The website keeps no copy and no contact-form database, and logs none of what you wrote. To stop automated abuse, the server function counts the requests from each IP address over a 10-minute window. It keeps only a salted one-way hash of the address (the random salt never leaves the server's memory), in memory only, and drops it once the window has passed, at the latest on a later request or when the server instance stops. So that a double click sends only once, it also remembers a random form id and a one-way fingerprint of the message for 10 minutes. Nothing of this is written to disk or logged.
You do not have to give us any personal data to use the site; writing to us is optional. The contact form asks for your email address, a topic and your message; your name and a page or source URL are optional. We make no decisions about you by automated means and do not profile visitors.
Filters and calculators run in your browser. What reaches our server are ordinary requests: page loads (including any filter, tool or advisor settings in a link you open, since these live in the page address so you can share them), the provider data the comparison and the advisor load, and the currency lookup described above. Fonts and images are served from this site, so loading a page contacts no third-party font, media or advertising service.
Hosting provider and other recipients
- Vercel Inc. (440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, United States) hosts the site and delivers it through its global network. For the request data above, and for contact-form messages while the server function passes them on, it acts as our processor under its Data Processing Addendum (opens in a new tab), which applies to customers on the Pro and Enterprise plans; we use the Pro plan. Vercel lists its sub-processors at security.vercel.com (opens in a new tab). Data that Vercel processes for its own purposes, such as operating and securing its platform, falls under Vercel's privacy notice (opens in a new tab). A message you send with the contact form passes through Vercel's servers on its way to our mailbox; we do not store it there.
- Zoho (Zoho Mail) hosts our mailbox and stores the emails and contact-form messages you send us, as our processor. Our account uses Zoho's EU data center region, where Zoho states it stores the data of that region's customers (see Zoho's data center page (opens in a new tab) and privacy FAQ (opens in a new tab)). Zoho lists the sub-processors and third parties it engages, per service and data center, in its sub-processor directory (opens in a new tab).
- Authorities, only where the law requires us to disclose data.
We do not sell personal data and share none with advertisers or data brokers.
International transfers
Vercel is a US company whose primary processing facilities are in the United States. The site's server functions run in Vercel's Washington, D.C. (USA) region, and pages can be served from Vercel locations worldwide, including in the EU. The request data described above is therefore transferred to the United States, and so is a message you send with the contact form, which that server function passes on to our mailbox.
Safeguards: Vercel participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission adopted an adequacy decision on 10 July 2023, and its Data Processing Addendum incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Commission Decision (EU) 2021/914). Email us for a copy of the safeguards that apply.
Emails and contact-form messages you send us are stored in Zoho's EU region. According to Zoho, employees of its Indian group company, Zoho Corporation Private Limited, may in rare cases access that data from India to provide technical support, without the data being moved out of the EU; Zoho bases this on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and supplementary measures from a transfer impact assessment.
PostHog stores analytics data in its EU cloud (Frankfurt, Germany). PostHog, Inc. is a US company, and its data processing agreement allows processing outside the EU, including in the United States, for example when its staff provide support; traffic to PostHog also passes through Cloudflare's worldwide network. Safeguards: PostHog participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and its data processing agreement incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Commission Decision (EU) 2021/914).
Cookies and your browser's storage
We use no tracking or advertising cookies, no fingerprinting and no similar technique to recognise you across days or sites (the cookie-free analytics described above links visits within one day only), and the site's own code sets no cookies. It keeps only the strictly functional items below in your browser's storage. They serve features you use, are never sent to us or anyone else and do not identify you, so they need no consent.
aihc.currency
- Local storage
- Remembers the currency you chose with the currency control, so the next visit shows prices the same way. Example:
{"v":1,"currency":"EUR","savedAt":"…"} - Used for up to 180 days, then deleted on your next visit; choosing Auto deletes it at once
- Only when you choose EUR or USD
aihc.currency-auto
- Session storage
- Keeps the default currency (EUR or USD) for this tab, so prices do not switch currency halfway through a page flow. Example:
{"v":1,"currency":"EUR","basis":"country"} - Until the tab is closed
- On the first page view in a tab, when no choice is saved
ahc:advisor-answers
- Session storage
- Keeps your answers in the hosting advisor for this tab, so going back to it does not lose them. Example:
?v=1&goal=assistant&… - Until the tab is closed
- When you answer the advisor's questions or open an advisor link that contains answers
aihc:compare-focus-title
- Session storage
- Moves keyboard focus to the comparison title after you add or swap a provider (accessibility). Example:
a timestamp - Removed by the next comparison page you open and ignored after 15 seconds; otherwise until the tab is closed
- Only when you change a comparison
aihc.locale
- Local storage
- Remembers the language you chose (English or Dutch) through the language switcher or the language suggestion, so the suggestion does not come back. It never redirects you: the address you open decides the language. Example:
{"v":1,"locale":"nl","savedAt":"…"} - Until you clear your browser data
- Only when you choose a language
aihc.locale-suggestion
- Local storage
- Remembers that you closed or accepted the one-line suggestion that the site is also available in Dutch, so it is not shown again. Example:
{"v":1,"state":"dismissed","savedAt":"…"} - Until you clear your browser data
- Only when you close or accept the suggestion
You can remove these items at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. If your browser blocks storage, the site still works and a currency choice lasts for the open page.
Analytics
We use PostHog, with data stored in PostHog's EU cloud, to understand which pages and tools are useful. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It records the page address without query parameters or fragments, the referring site (its domain only), campaign tags in the link (utm_source and similar), browser, operating system, device type, screen and window size, browser language and time zone, and the product events this site defines, such as a click on a provider link with the provider and where the link was placed. Never your answers in the hosting advisor, text you type, or your email address.
To count visitors without a cookie, PostHog computes an identifier on its servers from a hash of the day, your IP address, your browser's user agent and our domain. Visits on the same day can therefore be counted as one visitor; the hash changes every day, so you are not recognised across days or on other sites. The IP address is not stored and no profile of you is built. A Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal from your browser switches it off. PostHog processes this data on our behalf under its data processing agreement. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). On our plan, events are available to us for one year; older events can no longer be viewed or queried, but PostHog does not guarantee that they are deleted at that point. They contain no IP address and no identifier that lasts longer than a day. When we stop using PostHog, we instruct it to delete our data, as its data processing agreement provides.
Links to providers
Links to provider websites take you to sites with their own privacy policies. Some of them are affiliate links: AIHostCompare is an affiliate of DigitalOcean (through the Awin network), and may earn a commission when you sign up or buy through such a link. The line under each page's heading says so.
An affiliate link to DigitalOcean first opens Awin's tracking address (awin1.com), which records the click and passes you on to DigitalOcean. Awin and DigitalOcean record the referral, and any sign-up or purchase, under their own privacy policies, as their own controllers, and may set their own cookies on their own domains.
AIHostCompare sets no cookie or other identifier for this. The reports we receive show clicks, referrals and commissions; they do not tell us your name or contact details. Commissions never influence which providers we list, their order, the tools or the advice. The affiliate disclosure lists the programs that are active.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your personal data, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and you can object at any time to processing based on our legitimate interests. Email contact@aihostcompare.com or use the contact form. We answer within one month; for complex requests this can be extended by two further months, and we will tell you if it is. We may ask for information to confirm that a request comes from you.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority: in the Netherlands the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (opens in a new tab), or the authority in the EU country where you live or work or where you believe your rights were infringed.
Changes to this policy are published on this page with a new date.
